This month we shine the spotlight on Houston’s Star of Hope Mission. Established in 1907 as a Christ-centered refuge for Houston’s homeless men, Star of Hope has grown and evolved to meet the needs of Houston’s homeless men, women, and children. Through its structured programs and services, Star of Hope not only meets the immediate needs of those they serve, but strives to help individuals and families rise out of poverty to lead meaningful and healthy lives.
Star of Hope writes of itself on its website:
“The success of Star of Hope Mission is its comprehensive approach to addressing the diverse issues, both immediate and long term, that impact homeless individuals and families. This model of compassionate, purposeful outreach, coupled with community partners and donors, creates an environment in which lives are transformed and people are inspired to rise above poverty, set meaningful, measurable goals for independence and achieve them.”
Services that Star of Hope provides include: Career development curriculum, personal development curriculum, spiritual life program, workforce development, computer learning centers, counseling, emergency walk-in center, health clinics, substance abuse recovery, on-site day care, parenting classes, New Journey classes, and preventive services.
Whether you are looking to contribute to an effective and meaningful local charity or if you are in need, please consider Star of Hope Mission.
